New research project: Pentecostalism and politics in the Philippines

The Department of History of Religions and Mission Studies is pleased to announce a new research project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) exploring politics and Pentecostalism in the Philippines.

The research project about the South-East Asian country is titled "Politics and Society in Filipino Pentecostalism on Negros (Oriental)"  and studies the relationship to politics and society in the Pentecostal movement in the Philippines.

The project aims at a discourse analysis of terms relevant to the topics pertaining to their usage and meaning in every day life. The following foci are intended: 1) actual political and societal participation of Pentecostals; 2) the Pentecostal articulations of politics and society ("political theology"); and 3) the relationship between Pentecostalism and Islam.

The project will be carried by Giovanni Maltese.

Project duration: 1 May 2012 - 30 April 2015.
