    Madame Blavatsky and Monotheism

     

    The paper considers some of the history of the concept of monotheism, especially the view that monotheism is responsible for ignorance, intolerance, violence and oppression. Historicising the term 'monotheism' itself and focusing on the nineteenth century, its genealogy and, in particular, Blavatsky's position and agendas within this will be considered.
