International and Interdisciplinary Conference, 1–2 February 2013
In many contexts worldwide, the growth of Pentecostal and Charismatic Christianity has had a noticeable influence on local politics and political cultures, which comes with lasting implications for global politics, development work, and interreligious cooperation. The international and interdisciplinary conference traces the underlying processes by presenting current research from different disciplinary vantage points and regional contexts, seeking to critically review popular concepts of relating Pentecostalism and politics. The aim of the conference is to arrive at a more nuanced and differentiated understanding of the multi-faceted relationship between Pentecostal Christianity and politics, raising new issues for future research on the matter. In addition the conference provides a forum for discussing current doctoral and post-doctoral research on Pentecostal and Charismatic movements in thematic workshops.
The conference is hosted in cooperation with the European Research Network on Global Pentecostalism (GloPent), which was founded by scholars of the Free University of Amsterdam, the University of Bimingham, University of Heidelberg, and University of Uppsala in order to connect current research projects on global Pentecostal and Charismatic movements.
The conference will take place on 1 and 2 February 2012 in the Schmitthennerhaus, Heiliggeistr. 17, Heidelberg.
